The Norman Archibald Charitable Foundation has awarded Seattle Arts & Lectures a grant for infrastructure improvements, specifically to replace an aging phone system to better meet SAL’s communication needs. The Archibald Foundation funds non-profit charitable organizations that provide tangible benefits and ongoing support to improve the quality of life for residents of the Puget Sound region. The Foundation began grant making to charitable organizations within the Puget Sound region in 1976. Since then, the Foundation has granted over $13.5 million to qualified organizations.
We are so close to our goal, having raised $44,000 towards the goal of $50,000 since May 2nd. If you have already participated, you have our sincerest thanks. If you have not, you still have time! SAL's campaign concludes on Saturday, so please donate today! With your help, SAL can keep the literary arts an essential and vibrant component of our community.
SAL has received a 2012 Mayor's Arts Award, given this year to 10 individuals and organizations in honor of the Award's 10th Anniversary.
The Mayor's Arts Awards recognize artists, arts and cultural organizations, and community members who make a difference in our city through arts and cultural activities. The Seattle Arts Commission recommended SAL and the other nine recipients from a pool of more than 500 public nominations.
Thank you for helping SAL make an impact in our community. We are excited to share this honor with you and Mayor Mike McGinn at the awards ceremony, noon, Friday, August 31, at Seattle Center in partnership with Bumbershoot®: Seattle's Music & Arts Festival.
The 2012 Words Matter Benefit Dinner was an amazing Seattle Arts & Lectures’ event. The best of SAL was on stage, from Ed Skoog’s Roethke impression, to Jim Lynch reminding us that “the best of the books we read wind up feeling like a part of our history and identity,” to WITS student Alex Morrison representing the incredible next generation of writers.
We raised over $150,000! This support helps us continue to provide our community with transformative programs by acclaimed writers that foster diverse ideas, the imagination, and a love of reading and writing. Thank you for being there!
