SAL's Back to School Breakfast to support WITS SAL's Back to School Breakfast to support WITS SEP 27, 2016

Thank you for joining us at the 2016 Back-to-School Breakfast on Tuesday, September 27, at the Four Seasons Hotel Seattle, where we helped inspire thousands of K-12 students to engage in the power and the pleasure of the literary arts! As a community, we came together to raise over $87,000—enough to fund WITS at eight schools this year and inspire more than 1,600 young people to discover and harness their own words.

This annual breakfast raises funds for SAL’s Writers in the Schools (WITS) program, which places professional writers in local schools for year-long residencies to teach creative writing in close partnership with classroom teachers.

As a result, students gain essential literacy skills that support them throughout their lives, teachers develop new innovative teaching skills, and local writers are employed to inspire the next generation of writers and readers.

“WITS has made the students enjoy writing more...This has crossed over into every subject. Once students learn the enjoyment of writing there is no end to what they can do.” – BF Day teacher
