Enroll your organization online! We are delighted that you are considering a Teachers as Scholars membership for 2008-09 and look forward to the prospect of working with you and your teachers this year. Through our content-rich TAS seminars, your teachers can earn up to 10 clock hours or (for an additional fee) 1 graduate-level University of Washington credit. Our seminars honor the scholar in your teachers. The TAS faculty, all respected faculty at the University of Washington, give teachers expertise to teach new material and re-envision existing lesson plans. Participants rave that the program reinvigorates their love of learning and teaching. “This program is a feast for the teacher who so craves renewal and intellectual stimulation,” writes one high school teacher. Another participant described the seminar experience as: “valuable, clear, compassionate, challenging, thoughtful, grown-up, knowledgeable.” Three out of four teachers reported that TAS was the best professional development they had ever experienced. Teachers as Scholars is a membership-based program. Teachers recognize and appreciate the opportunity school membership affords them. As a recent participant says, “I think it’s wonderful that the sponsors provide this for teachers. I feel valued!” TAS membership is open to districts, schools, departments within schools, and even to independent cohorts of teachers not necessarily affiliated with a single school. Any individual or group of individuals working together to purchase five or more seminar spots qualifies for a membership and the benefits granted to member organizations. By purchasing memberships, you enable a number of teachers from your organization to attend TAS seminars free of charge. TAS memberships are established through the advance purchase of 5 or more seminar spaces and offer the following benefits:
Membership Levels: We offer several membership levels based on the number of seminar spots you wish to purchase. Our membership level increments correspond to our benefit increases. You may also elect to tailor the number of seminar spots you purchase to suit your organization's needs.
Becoming a Member School District: If you are authorized to act as a representative of your school or district and want to sign up for a 2008-09 TAS Membership, register now online, download our Membership Registration Form, or contact the TAS Program Coordinator at (206) 621-2230 x16 or by email. We accept new memberships year-round. Even if your school cannot join this year, your teachers can still register as independent participants. Their $180 seminar fee includes all course materials, admission to applicable related events, and light refreshments at the sessions. Getting Your Teachers Registered for TAS Seminars: Once you have established your organization’s memberships, we will provide you with a bypass billing code to give your teachers so they can register without having to submit payment for their seminars. We look to our membership contacts to let your teachers know the opportunity to take a TAS seminar is available to them, to manage any approval process you require for them to request of one your membership spots, and to instruct them how to register for the seminar of their choice. Your teachers must complete our online seminar registration application to request an open seat in the seminars. We will provide you with all the information you need to help your teachers get registered. Enrolling An Independent Consortium: We developed the Independent Consortium category as a response to the needs of groups of teachers whose participation will not be covered by their districts or schools but who have a combined interest in purchasing 5 or more seminar spots and are, therefore, eligible for TAS membership benefits as a group. Independent Consortiums may be comprised of teachers from one or several schools. By registering for a membership as an independent consortium, you are committing to function as a single entity. This means that even though several people will be taking seminars through your consortium, you will meet the following TAS requirements:
If you are a teacher and want to determine if your school or district is a member, email the TAS Program Coordinator.
Clock Hours and Credits: TAS seminars are Washington State Approved Clock Hour Workshops. Each seminar earns up to ten clock hours or, for an additional fee, one graduate-level credit from the University of Washington. 2008-09 Members: To be announced. 2007-08 Members: Archdiocese of Seattle, Ballard High School Language Arts Department, Bellevue High School, The Bush School, Central Kitsap High School, Eastlake High School, The Evergreen School, Forest Ridge of the Sacred Heart, Lake Washington High School, Northshore School District, The Northwest School, Todd Beamer High School, University Prep, UW Simpson Center for the Humanities.
