a Palestinian refugee camp, Suheir Hammad moved to Brooklyn when
she Iraqi-born writer, journalist, and editor Alia Mamdouh is a close observer of Arab literary life and East-West relations, as a well as a cultural journalist who has lived and worked in several Arab and Western capitals. Her only novel available in English is Mothballs. Fadia Faqir was born in Amman, Jordan, in 1956, the year of independence. She declares that she writes "to bear witness and do justice." In addition to publishing her own fiction and nonfiction, she has translated and edited the writing of other Arab women authors. Generous support for this event has been provided by Safeco Insurance.
